Somatic Awareness

Picture
As we enter deeply into summer, I have been considering how to best align with my calling for Gestalt Soul Care.

I came across a meditation from Resmaa Menakem about Juneteenth in the daily meditations from the Center for Action and Contemplation.

Menakem's reflection struck home for me as he points out how we hold our life experience, both good and painful, in our bodies; and in order to have peace amongst us, we must first bring our bodies into a peaceful state.

This is a beautiful example of Gestalt process into Wholeness. Menakem makes an eloquent case for how we store trauma in our bodies, and how to process it in a way that does not "spray out" any further unnecessary pain to others. He calls it “clean Pain” and I so respect his perspective; I find it to be very parallel and congruent with the approaches of Gestalt Soul Care.

I address aspects of somatic awareness and wholeness more deeply in my Introductory Course in Gestalt Soul Care offered throughout the year.

Thank you, Mr. Menakem and Fr. Richard!
