Transitions...

Picture

When was the last time you were in a transition? Are you in one now, or do you have one coming soon? Actually, transitions are happening for us and in us all the time; little ones, medium sized ones and big ones-and everything in between… And this is challenging for all of us, because we like to know what’s going to happen and be in control of the process. Right now in our bodies, cells are undergoing transitions– taking in nourishment, waste, dividing into new cells, and dying off. School terms are ending, jobs are ending, new living quarters are being moved into, relationships are growing and ending, etc.

What do you need to successfully move through your transitions? A quote attributed to Victor Frankel stated,
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom. The space between stimulus and response is where the decision gets made”

It’s in this space, which can be an infinitesimal amount of time, that we are given the opportunity to consider and choose our response.  And we want to have access to as much of our highest cognitive acuity that we can muster.  In order to have a clear space inside to work from, we often have to do the work of taking out the psychic, emotional and spiritual “trash” that can get in the way of seeing clearly. This involves a progression of shining a light on the trash, being able to pick it up and identify it, and then release it, and then engage in the cleanup afterwards.

Dr. Sylvia Crocker often said “people are herd animals“ I believe she was right; and so it seems important to have support during transitions. A transition is by definition a period of flux, of change, of uncertainty which requires courage to work through. Courage is doing the transition afraid, even being willing to do it badly, because wanting to do it perfectly can stop all movement through the process.

Is there a transition that you’re aware of in your life right now that might need some support? You can schedule a free session through this website at this link.  My position is that you have the awareness and solutions within, and I can support you with effective gestalt modalities to explore and discover your answers.
